Have you heard…
…about The Golden Rule?
There was once a rather firmly held belief at the House that a good chocolate cookie required very little interference.
A sound recipe. Good chocolate. Properly baked.
That ought to have been quite enough.
Then, one afternoon, somebody arrived in the kitchen with a packet of stroopwafels.
What possessed them to break the crisp caramel waffles into pieces and fold them through a batch made with rich, subtly salted blonde chocolate has never been entirely clear.
What happened next was considerably easier to establish.
The first tray disappeared before it had properly cooled.
A second was requested.
Then a third.
By the end of the afternoon, the old wisdom had been quietly reconsidered and a new principle established in its place.
The Golden Rule:
If a good thing can be made considerably more indulgent, one really ought to try.
