Have you heard…

…about The Strawberry Shenanigans?

It began, as these things often do, quite innocently – with strawberries, toasted macadamias and a rather generous quantity of white chocolate.

What followed was considerably less respectable.

There was, by all accounts, a degree of commotion. Plates were cleared with suspicious efficiency. Several members returned for seconds. One gentleman was reportedly seen attempting to secure the final piece before luncheon had even concluded.

The House declined to comment.

What is known is that the resulting blondie was rich, buttery and studded throughout with strawberries, toasted macadamias and white chocolate.

The rest has been discreetly filed under The Strawberry Shenanigans.

Best enjoyed when the afternoon has nowhere particular to be, The Strawberry Shenanigans is quite content served at room temperature, where the strawberry remains bright, the white chocolate creamy and the toasted macadamias retain their buttery crunch.

She takes particularly well to accompaniments that play to her balance of sweetness, fruit and gentle nuttiness:

Freshly brewed tea, particularly Earl Grey or a delicate black tea, whose light tannins provide a welcome counterpoint to the richness of the blondie.

A well-made coffee, preferably smooth rather than heavily roasted, allowing the toasted macadamia to come forward without overpowering the strawberry.

A glass of cold milk, simple but remarkably effective alongside the creamy sweetness of white chocolate.

Fresh strawberries, served simply and without embellishment, to bring a little freshness and natural acidity alongside their more concentrated counterpart.

Crème fraîche or lightly whipped cream, offered in a modest spoonful, adding coolness and a gentle tang without competing for attention.

For occasions requiring rather less restraint, she may be served slightly warmed with:

A scoop of vanilla ice cream, melting slowly into the blondie and rounding out the brighter strawberry notes.

A spoonful of softly whipped mascarpone, perhaps accompanied by a few fresh strawberries, for something approaching dessert while maintaining a degree of decorum.

However she is served, there is little need to make too much of a production of it.

After all, The Strawberry Shenaniganss has already caused quite enough of one.
